Locksmith Marketing Data For 2026

What your customers search, what they fear, what they pay, and who is taking the call from you. Pulled for shop owners who would rather see numbers than opinions.

Locksmith customers run about 6.8 million Google searches a month, and their top fear is the bill. Almost no real shop answers that fear, so bait price sites, Reddit and key kiosks take the attention.

What Hurts Locksmith Customers Most

We ranked complaints from customer posts and 3,788 Google reviews of 50 locksmiths, and 1,126 of those reviews were one or two stars. Price and trust lead the list. They are also the angriest.

Here is the pattern. Customers forgive a high price they agreed to. They post about a price that changed. Good reviews agree, because 1,003 of 1,907 praise a fast arrival and 338 praise a fair price or a job done as quoted. Only 37 percent of bad reviews got a reply from the owner, which is the cheapest fix on this page.

What the Map Pack Looks Like

We pulled 1,640 Google Maps "locksmith" listings across 41 metros.

  • KeyMe kiosks are 323 of the listings, and a kiosk sits in the top 10 in 35 of 41 metros.
  • The shop at the top of the map has a median of 106 reviews. The median listing has about 72.
  • 35 percent of listings show open 24 hours.
  • 15.7 percent show no street address, but only 4.9 percent of the top three do.
  • The median rating is 4.8, so stars alone will not set you apart. Review count and fresh reviews do.

Who Customers Compare You To

The dealership is your real rival on car keys, with 1,236 mentions in customer posts. Police and roadside are the free options people try first. They score badly, with net sentiment of minus 40 and minus 45, because they often will not come or take too long. Amazon and eBay come up 564 times, mostly from people who bought a cheap fob and now need it programmed. That is a service you can name and sell.

Eight Openings for a Real Shop

  1. Publish your prices before the van rolls. See our locksmith pricing guide.
  2. Prove you are local, with a real address, the tech's name and photo, and your license number.
  3. Sell car keys against the dealer, priced by make.
  4. Answer "was this fair?" better than Reddit does.
  5. Name smart lock installs and rescues as a service.
  6. Sell a flat move in rekey package.
  7. Build landlord and property manager accounts.
  8. Offer to fix what the kiosk could not copy.
